Internet Pioneer Steve Case Joins Congress of Cities Lineup

Steve-Case-NLCNLC proudly announces that one of America’s best-known and most accomplished entrepreneurs and philanthropists, Steve Case, will join Ariel Schwartz, Senior Editor, Fast Company Co.Exist, for a special conversation at the Congress of Cities in Austin.

A pioneer in making the Internet part of everyday life, Case got his start as an entrepreneur in 1985 as a co-founder of America Online (AOL) – the first internet company to go public. Currently, he serves as chairman and CEO ofRevolution, a Washington, D.C. based investment firm he co-founded in 2005, where he partners with visionary entrepreneurs to build significant, ‘built to last’ businesses. Revolution entities have jointly backed more than 30 companies, including Zipcar, RunKeeper, Lolly Wolly Doodle, Bigcommerce and Echo360.

Steve’s passion for helping entrepreneurs remains his driving force. He was the founding chair of the Startup America Partnership— an effort launched at the White House to accelerate high-growth entrepreneurship throughout the nation. In 2013, the Startup America Partnership joined forces with Startup Weekend to create UP Global, which Steve now chairs. He is also aPresidential Ambassador for Global Entrepreneurship and was a member of President Obama’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness where he chaired the subcommittee on entrepreneurship.

Steve has been a leading voice in shaping government policy on issues related to entrepreneurship, working across the aisle to advance public policies that expand access to capital and talent.

Case to Address City Leaders in Austin

At the Friday morning general session of the Congress of Cities in Austin, Steve Case and Ariel Schwartz, Senior Editor, Fast Company Co.Exist, will explore innovative practices currently taking place in cities and what is next on the horizon. Cities want to be prepared for what is coming and, this session will help city leaders think about and anticipate coming innovative trends.

Following the one-on-one, Ariel will moderate a panel discussion on trends in city innovation, the sharing economy (think Uber, Lyft, AirBnB, etc.), and data’s impact on cities, all with an eye toward how these practices will impact the future of cities.  Panelists include:

  • Mayor Bill Peduto, Mayor of Pittsburgh
  • Jenny Backus, Senior Policy Advisor/ Strategic Outreach & Partnership, Google
